Title: Get with the new “ACVIM” Guidelines: Management of Chronic Valvular Disease in 2020
Chronic valvular disease (CVD) is the most common cause of heart disease and heart failure in the dog. This session will use a case series to highlight the recently updated management guidelines, with emphasis on when to initiate treatment in stage B, optimum therapy for stage C, and a practical approach to the coughing dog with CVD. Attendees will gain confidence in the new guidelines and learn how to incorporate them into clinical practice.

Sonya Gordon DVM, DVSc, DACVIM (Associate Professor of Cardiology Texas A&M University)
Dr. Gordon received her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. In addition to being a Professor of cardiology, she holds the Eugene Ch’en Chair in Cardiology and is a fellow of the Michael E. DeBakey Institute and the cardiology residency program director in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in cardiology and has been in academic practice for more than 20 years where she sees clinical cardiology cases approximately 40% of the time. Dr. Gordon has published more than 70 original manuscripts, numerous book chapters and articles, and a textbook (The ABCDs of Small Animal Cardiology: A Practical Manual). She was also one of the lead investigators in the EPIC and PROTECT clinical trials, for which she received a 2017 CVM Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award and the 2019 Texas Veterinary Medical Association Research Award.
